gmn_spinde.jpgGMN optospindles can be run on ball bearings or air bearings depending upon the requirements. Static air bearings, i.e. bearings with compressed air supply, are used for high loads, e.g. for large "heavy" rotors. The dynamic air bearing automatically builds up the required air film independently regardless of its surface geometry.
A new development, the so called hybrid air bearing, unites the advantages of the static and of the dynamic air bearing. During start-up and slow-down, the dynamic air bearing is supplied with compressed air for a few seconds. In this case dry friction during start-up is avoided and thus theoretically infinite life can be achieved.

GMN air bearings represent an outstanding technical development. Critical features are protected by patents.
